Northern Exposure-Alaska: This small town inspired a big hit
“Northern Exposure” was a popular CBS hit series set in a small, eccentric, fictional Cicely, Alaska. However, the show was shot in studios and locations in Roslyn, Washington. The former coal mining town had a historical presence, beautiful architecture, and lots of snow making it the perfect location for the show set in a remote Alaskan town. Although the show ran from 1990 to 1995, some notable locations remain.
Ruth-Anne’s Store, The K.B.H.R. radio station, and other sites like Roslyn’s CafĂ© and the Weather-beaten vistas of Main Street are seen in the opening credits. The show did not portray much of the city’s real-life experience, particularly since the storyline largely clashed with the location. Shows like “Frasier” were also shot in Washington.
