Justified-Kentucky: Who knew Pennsylvania could be a backdrop for the Appalachian mountains
The Western crime drama “Justified” portrays a deputy US Marshal who enforces his interpretation of justice. It takes place in the Appalachian mountain area of Harlan County in eastern Kentucky, as well as Lexington where the Marshal’s office is located. Many of the main characters are from Harlan County, but the show was not filmed there.
It focuses on the lives and culture of the people in the mountain region but was filmed in California. The pilot was shot in Pittsburgh and suburban Kittanning and Washington City. In the pilot, Pittsburgh’s David L. Lawrence Convention Center is used as the small town “airport.” Not only that, the construction of the new Consol Energy Center was the “new courthouse.”
