The Mary Tyler Moore-Minneapolis: This single woman took on this midwestern city
“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” is set in different places. For instance, the flagship Donaldson’s department store at the intersection of Nicollet Mall and 7th Street in downtown Minnesota and a television newsroom was used for the show’s workplace because that is where characters were most found. Mary worked at a fictional news station, WJM, and the opening credits and establishing shots were filmed in Minnesota, but the real show was filmed elsewhere.
It was mainly filmed at the CBS Studio Center in LA, and other locations include Lake of the Isles, MN. In the show, Mary’s apartment was a real-life “T.V.’s most famous bachelorette pad” in a real house in Minneapolis located at 2104 Kenwood Parkway. The tv show’s focus is based on the lifestyle of Minnesota, which depicts the evolution of gender, sex, and the views of the city of Minnesota in the changing times.
