The word “chips” means different things in America and the UK
Potato chips are so addictive. We all want to sit on the couch after a long day and eat a big bag of that salty snack while watching TV. However, British convenience store cashiers won’t understand you if you ask them for a bag of chips.
People from Britain call “chips” what Americans know as French fries. So, if you go to the store and don’t want to end up with a bag of frozen fries instead of your favorite snacks, you should ask the cashier for “crisps.”
