While some countries change some recipes to adapt dishes to their cultures, others simply serve the same food with a different name. For example, people from Australia and the UK might cringe if you offer them some biscuits and gravy.
It isn’t that the meal is disgusting. In fact, biscuits and gravy are a popular brunch choice among Americans. The problem here is that “biscuits” is another name for cookies, and no one wants to eat sweet cookies topped with animal fat.
