Dirty Dancing was based on a true story
While most stories and films are fictional, Dirty Dancing is an exception and actually comes from the true life story of Eleanor Bergstein. Bergstein is an American writer known for writing and co-producing Dirty Dancing.
Bergstein was born in 1938 in Brooklyn. Her family spent summers in the luxury resort Grossinger’s Catskill Resort Hotel in the Catskill Mountains; while her parents played golf, she was dancing and loved competing in local competitions.
