There was no close-up shot of the lake scene because of the cold
For such an iconic scene, many wondered why there was no close-up capture or pictures of the dive in the lake. The temperature during filming was way above what the average human could withstand. Since the crew could only film during the hotel’s off-season in autumn, they had to wear their coats between takes.
When Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey stripped to take the lake scene, they were so cold that the goosebumps on their body were visible, and their lips turned blue. Since it was a one-take scene, they had to conceal the actors’ true condition by filming away rather than up close.
