Bill Medley thought he was hired to sing for a pornography and declined at first
Before Medley was hired, the team encountered difficulties as he declined several times before accepting the role. In an interview with Songfacts, Bill said when he was hired to sing for the film, he thought it sounded like bad porn as the name ‘dirty dancing’ pointed to something erotic.
He was approached by Jimmy Lenner repeatedly over two months to do the recording, but he turned it down because his daughter was about to be born, and he had promised his wife he would be there.
