The plot reveals that all the events took place in 1963
The scriptwriter set the plot of the movie in 1963 and not 1987, which was the year of the filming. This was made known when Baby mentioned at the beginning of the movie about certain monks burning themselves willingly in a protest.
This referred to the Buddhist monk Thích Quang Ducset, who set himself on fire in Saigon in a ritual suicide to protest against the government’s anti-Buddhist policies. This event took place on June 11, 1963.
