Their mother was very strict about her preferred brand of dish soap
Habit is a powerful force, and it is not easy to break. If someone has been using the same product for decades, they are not likely to change their preference unless there is a strong external motivator. This mother certainly felt very strongly about her choice of dish soap.
Too bad she could not figure out which detergent brand she used. It is a good thing her child knew their history and was able to correct her mistake. Still, you cannot fault her for wanting to stick to what works. As the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
