You should avoid jokes about death during a medical consult
Modern medicine has perfected the art of keeping humans alive. It does not mean that it can save absolutely everyone. Sometimes there is nothing anyone can do to preserve a person’s life. Fortunately, this Twitter user survived, but judging by what their doctor said, they did so against all odds.
Did the doctor not get the memo? Regardless, it is never good manners to tell one of your patients you are surprised they are alive. We know he was probably joking, but some types of humor do not work in certain settings. Maybe next time, he should keep his comments to himself.
