Someone dropped a jar full of glitter on the rug
Glitter is notorious for being impossible to remove. It is already hard to get out of your skin, hair, and makeup brushes, so imagine how disastrous it can be to have an entire bottle of it get spilled in the living room. What is worse, this glitter was spilled on top of a rug.
That means they will probably still be finding glitter on it decades into the future. Of course, vacuuming everything up will get rid of most of it, but these shiny little flakes have a tendency to get into the deepest crevices, and their light-reflecting qualities make them stand out even more.
