Because of a flood, the lake came up to the front door
Flooding is a common occurrence in many regions of the world. In those places, buildings are often built to withstand a certain amount of water damage. That said, this level of flooding might test the foundations of any apartment complexes. This amount of water would certainly have caused some serious issues.
It looks as though the structure was built flush next to the lake. The swans floating about only serve to make the effect even more pronounced. We almost wonder if there ever was any ground out the front door, to begin with. Hopefully, the people who lived there did not suffer too much from the flood.
