Ava DuVernay Barbie
Ava DuVernay is a TV producer, American filmmaker, and film publicist. She has directed shows such as “When They See Us,” a mini-series detailing the wrongful conviction of five teenage boys, also known as the Central Park Five. This series sought to show the world the injustice black men face under the law. Barbie made DuVernay’s doll part of the “Sheroes” collection, an exclusive collection dedicated to great women.
Barbie’s “Shero” collection began in 2015 and has since launched several dolls celebrating women of different cultures, races, and ages. The “Sheroes” collection is a group of female role models and mentors from various fields and industries. This collection gives young girls hope for a future with better opportunities for women.
