This Play on Words Never Gets Old
Only a few movies are as quotable as the 1980 disaster movie parody “Airplane!.” The film had a lot of memorable gags, but one of the best is when pilot Ted Striker tells Dr. Rumack, “Surely you can’t be serious,” and Dr. Rumack replies, “I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.”
The movie tells the story of Ted Striker, a former pilot who fears flying. Unfortunately, he is burdened with the task of safely landing a plane when most of the passengers and crew fall sick because of food poisoning.
