This Buddha sculpture hides a mummified body inside
The first thing that springs to your mind when you picture mummies is probably Ancient Egypt. Still, mummification was performed in other parts of the globe, too. This 1,000-year-old Buddha sculpture is living proof of that historical fact.
A CT scan showed the presence of a mummified body of a monk within it. Known as Sokushinbutsu, these monks dedicated their lives to their religion to the point of undergoing a 10-year special diet to cleanse their bodies so they wouldn’t decompose.
