Prison is filled with horror stories
The two instances shared here are definitely enough to explain why they consider imprisonment a punishment. We can’t imagine the brutal bloodshed those prisoners witnessed while one of them was getting beaten to a pulp.
On the other hand, breaking bad news to someone about a person they care about is a tough job; people don’t realize the guts it takes to tell someone something terrible happened to a loved one, and this is something that even the most courageous men find difficult to overcome.
