Your Non-English Speaking Roommate Learns New Words
The hardest part of learning the English language is using certain “big words” in sentences and in some contexts, and that can be tough for foreigners. Like any language, some words just feel like they don’t quite make sense.
When you think of the word “asparagus,” the first thing that comes to mind isn’t a vegetable. The word sounds more complex, like a tool or machine. It is no wonder John’s roommate needed a little insight. English speakers can relate; the word “croissant” sounds too complex for a piece of buttery pastry.
