They adapted a phrase made famous by the movie Home Alone
There is a scene in the classic movie Home Alone where Macaulay Culkin is watching an old gangster film, and he is traumatized by what he sees. In the scene, one man shoots another and then says “Keep the change, you filthy animal.”
This family chose to adapt the phrase to suit their current circumstances. Everyone who came across it probably figured the reference out instantly. After all, who has not watched Home Alone?
