From Mannequin to Cinnamon Challenge, These Viral Trends Have Become Pop Culture Phenomena

The internet is full of countless funny videos and trends. Sometimes, these trends become a challenge that everyone tries to pull off. While almost every month comes with a new internet trend, there are past viral challenges still etched in our memories. Some of these unforgettable challenges were simple and fun, while others were thrilling and borderline scary. Here are five of them.

Bird Box Challenge

This is one of those challenges that makes us wonder why people would do them in the first place. This challenge followed the release of the Netflix original film “Bird Box,” where characters are blindfolded for most parts of the movie.

The blindfolding part became the bird box challenge, where people covered their eyes while doing different things. When a 17-year-old had a minor car accident while driving blindfolded, Netflix had to step in on Twitter and ask people not to go too far with the challenge.

The Floor Is Lava Challenge

Many viral challenges come from our childhood activities, and this one is no exception. When it got to social media, everyone jumped on the challenge because it was nostalgic and hilarious. Who doesn’t like playing around like a kid?

Social media personalities like Kevin Freshwater and Jahannah James started the challenge on Instagram and Snapchat. People jumped on shelves and scrambled up walls, avoiding the floor like it was lava.

Mannequin Challenge

Some challenges just came randomly; they don’t have any particular basis, but we just love them because they are fun; such was the viral mannequin challenge. So, what was the challenge all about?

To do the challenge, you just have to get your friends in static positions, like how mannequins ‘freeze.’ The fun part is taping them to the sound of “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd, making them look like real mannequins.

Movember Challenge

Movember is one of those viral challenges that people bring to social media for a good cause. The Movember challenge started in Melbourne, Australia, before it became a real challenge, often followed by the ‘Are you man enough to be my man?’ catchphrase.

The Movember challenge made men grow out their mustaches for a month (November) to raise awareness about men’s health and prostate cancer. Trends like these set the foundation for using social media for a good cause in a fun way.

Cinnamon Challenge

The cinnamon challenge is just like those middle school impossible challenges that got you a membership into the ‘cool kids squad’ if you succeeded. Of course, there is a limit to the size of cinnamon a person can take at once.

However, this challenge is about putting a whole spoon of cinnamon in one’s mouth without spitting it out. Of course, social media was bombarded with videos of people coughing and sneezing up cinnamon.
