Keeping Your Blondes Bright

We can’t believe it’s already (practically) April, which means summer will be here before we know it. If you’re anything like us, then you probably have a hair appointment coming up and you’re probably thinking about going a little lighter for the warmer days to give your hair that sun-kissed look. We love it, we’re here for it, but if you’ve ever had a touch of blonde in your hair whether it is or was in the form of highlights or balayage, then you know that going lighter has its pros and cons, and one of those cons is that keeping hair bright can take some work. We’re here for you, and we have some tips that should help! Let’s get started.

Invest in a good shampoo specifically for blonde hair. Shampoo made for blonde hair is just a way for you to brighten your hair at home, in the shower, by removing dark, dull build-up. We recommend washing your hair with brightening shampoo two to three times per week, and improvising with dry shampoo in between washes if you need to.

While we’re on the topic of washing your hair, wash it less. Washing your hair is often the main reason your color starts to fade.

Avoid using hot water on blonde hair. Hot water feels great and all, and don’t get us wrong, we want our showers steamy, but hot water opens the hair cuticle which can result in fading color, while cold water does the opposite and seals the hair’s cuticle which preserves the color.

A purple toner will take away the brassiness and it will become your new favorite product. After so long, your blonde will get brassy, it’s just natural, but an easy way to combat the brassiness is with a purple toner. It’s easy to use and will kick the brass until your next hair appointment.

Hydrated hair is happy hair. Lightening your hair can cause a ton of dryness and damage so to keep your locks healthy, we recommend using a hydration mask or treatment on your hair, and don’t skimp on conditioner.

Just say no to overheating. It’s probably inevitable that you’ll be needing to use some form of heat on your hair, and we totally get it, just make sure that you are using a heat-protectant spray before you begin. And as you curl your hair or straighten it, keep it movin’, don’t let a heat tool linger too long in one spot, this can be super damaging.
