He showed up
One of the things the movies taught us is that as much as love is immense, sometimes people get scared and don’t attend their own weddings. We don’t know much about it in real life, but we love this anecdote and this couple, even though we don’t know them.
She didn’t know what to say to her husband when she reached the end of the hall, so she thanked him for showing up. He could have answered anything but decided to go along with it and said, “No problem. I didn’t have plans”. What would you have answered?
