Sound In, Sound Out
The importance of symbols is that anyone can easily understand them. As a perfectionist, seeing a symbol that makes me think twice before getting it makes me roll up my eyes. Luckily one thing that is easy to understand is the mute button.
In this case, what one can understand with the symbols is that a key makes the sound go in, and the other makes the sound go out. It doesn’t make any sense. They don’t turn the volume up or down apparently. Another case where a second look or a little more attention to detail would have gone a long way.
