Someone was very attached to their Scottish roots
Scotland was managed by different family groups or clans for most of its history. Each clan had its own shared surname and a plaid pattern. This man went to pick up a relative at the airport and thought it would be nice to display his Scottish heritage.
They even included the family seal and everything. It must feel great to get someplace and be received with formality as if you were an emissary from afar who traveled to discuss important business matters.
