Facebook chose this combination of colors to express optimism
Nowadays, Facebook is a name that speaks for itself. The social media platform founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 has grown from an online photo directory to a global social networking site. The brand was once known as “The Facebook,” with a white logo consisting of the bracketed term printed in white on a dark blue background.
The simple font was so familiar that it seemed like it would stay the same forever. However, the company went with a new, all-caps logo with a rainbow gradient instead of the original, pure white design. The alteration appears to distinguish the social network and the corporation.
