Blue Valentine: A sad romance
Released in 2010, Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine” is one of those movies whose grim ending is inescapable, but still, the viewer sits and awaits the disintegration of the love between a happy couple and what would appear to be a normal family to anyone from the surface.
There is something about Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of the intensity of emotions that elevates the helpless romanticism. Just like in “La La Land,” this movie also starts off happy, but the tension and impending doom that awaits both protagonists, their family, and apparent ‘happy’ marriage make this movie painful but beautiful at the same time. The ‘happy’ couple is replicated in Legos above.
