The town of Shitterton had to get a sign carved in stone to avoid theft
Once a town name is established, it is not so easy to change it. One would think that nothing is stopping the locals from making a vote and simply changing some signs, but that is not always the case. You also have to think about all the national routes and maps.
The English town of Shitterton is one of the most unfortunate names we have ever heard of. It dates at least a thousand years back. Recently, the name has become so popular that they had to carve the sign on stone because people kept on stealing it.
