Welcome to the Monastery
This scenario is weird as far as weirdness can go because if the visiting friend wanted to become a monk, they would have gone straight to the monastery, not someone’s house. We’re sorry, but it’s more of a prison than a monastery because no religious activities were being done, just the absence of social activities.
And if they were very religious, why didn’t they feed their visitor? All the mainstream religions say something clear about helping those in need and those around you. And this is not even “help” in that sense; this is just plain courtesy and kindness. It is also concerning that the child wanted to live anywhere else but her home.
