Billie Jean Was Released
Of all Michael Jackson’s songs, “Billie Jean” is my favorite. You can’t resist the tune. It has a killer bass line, awesome drum beats, unique vocals, and poppy synths — all of them unique to the song, independently strong, and very catchy.
The lyrics are dark and mysterious. In the song, Michael tells a story about his encounter with a beautiful woman who seduces him and then traps him in a web of lies and false paternity claims. Despite the ambient darkness around the song, Billie Jean is danceable, which was very important to its success. Although the lyrics tell a story, they are easy to memorize.
