Things Were Built to Last
Yes, many goods are cheaper now, but they are also of inferior quality compared to what we had in the 80s. Plastic has replaced durable metal, and plywood has replaced sturdy wood. Today, you’d be fortunate if your toasters or dishwasher last more than a year. It seems like producers are deliberately making products of poor quality so consumers will purchase more. Think of how many vacuum cleaners suddenly stop working and how many TVs instantly develop faults even before their warranty is up.
Today we live in a disposable plastic society, and the pileup of plastic has a negative impact on our planet. We can concisely conclude that not only has quality been thrown out the window, but we are on the verge of self-destructing because of the mass accumulation of plastic in the environment.
