Throw out your thumbs
This may not be a known fact, but humans are not the only beings that have opposable thumbs. A few other mammals also have them. Having an opposable thumb means that being able to rotate and flex your thumb so that it opposes or touches the tips of your other fingers; the rotating thumb allows us to grasp, hold, and use objects.
We probably don’t spend time thinking about our thumbs, but they do help us do all kinds of things. Therefore, the thought of having to go through life without them could be quite disturbing. We therefore understand how @adamwinter35 must have felt at the thought of saying goodbye to his thumbs.
