When the Doctor Doesn’t Believe How Much Anesthesia You Need
Knowing your body and its requirements for certain procedures is vital to avoid waking up during surgery. This man went in for heart surgery and told the doctor beforehand that he would need more anesthesia than most people would. The doctor did not listen, gave him the normal dose, and told him that he would fall asleep in the next 10 minutes, but 15 minutes later, this patient was still awake.
The patient had to say “hi” to the operating team, which astonished the doctor that he was still awake, and gave him another dose of anesthesia before falling asleep. He later woke up midway through the surgery without the doctor and nurses having any idea. They later found out that when this guy could no longer bear the pain from the procedure and was making loud sounds, this freaked out the doctor and nurses, so they administered another dose of anesthesia to the patient.
