There hasn’t been anything in the history of cooking that has been as controversial and debatable as MSG. Commonly used as a substitute for salt, which adds a unique umami flavor to the dishes and enhances the taste, there still seems to be a lot of debate over whether the compound is healthy for you.
Although there hasn’t been any medical research that has proven that MSG can cause the health issues that some people claim they do, some reports indicate that they might contribute to such symptoms while not necessarily being the sole cause. And as a consumer, if one has anything that is either packaged or not homemade, chances are that it contains MSG anyway.
