Characters in horror movies are always trying to answer the question of why serial killers do what they do. What forced them to pick up a machete and wreak havoc on some unsuspecting group of teenage hikers? Why torment someone in their dream? Why do they continue to murder victim after victim?
However, nobody asks what’s killing these serial killers. Did they experience a childhood trauma that sent them into a murderous frenzy every Halloween? While it’d be nice to know what’s troubling them so much, we’d much rather question their motives from the safety of our screens, not in real-life.
