These people must have needed this weight-bearing beam to keep the house standing, so they made this strange-looking design. There has to be another way to get to the other side of the hall, or people will have to slip under this every time they need to enter that room.
They must be specialists at limbo since this looks terribly uncomfortable. They should find a better way to support this house without cutting off a hallway completely.
