He got the profession of the girl he liked wrong
It’s easy to engage in conversations when you’re sober, but after a few drinks, the story changes. Words start to sound similar, and all the technicalities you’ve learned become indistinguishable. So, when Will heard a girl he liked telling him she was a paralegal, he thought he knew what she meant.
It turns out he didn’t. While a paralegal is a law student who’s close to receiving their diploma and can assist lawyers with their procedures, a person with paraplegia is someone whose motoric functions are impaired (most of the time in the lower half of the body): similar sound, but drastically different meanings.
