This woman gives a sarcastic answer whenever someone asks a dumb question
If you’re one of those people who get too technical about language, you probably give a sarcastic answer when you get asked something that doesn’t make much sense. Like when a student asks a teacher, “Can I go to the toilet?” and they reply with “No, you must not,” in a jokingly manner.
These phrases are often used when people want to be polite or careful, or as a sort of introduction to the actual message. Another dumb thing to say is “Can I ask you a question?”, when, like Kayleen points out, you just did. But getting that answer must hurt a little, right?
