They never forgave the children for giving them cats
Sometimes a kind gesture can backfire. These kids got their parents some cats thinking they would make them happy. However, the parents ended up hating the animals and resented their children for saddling them with that responsibility.
They showed their displeasure by leaving the children none of their assets. The only thing they got was the cats. We feel bad for the cats, they were not loved before, and they probably never will be loved now.
