She refused to serve soup with broken glass inside
It looks like there are plenty of “getting fired” stories centered around food. In most cases, the employee has mistakenly disregarded a food-safety rule. But there are exceptions; some bosses don’t care about the safety of their customers. In those cases, the employee steps up against them and sadly ends up fired.
Susan rightfully refused to serve soup that had been stored in broken glass jars. For her, the safety of the food was more important than throwing away some soup. Her boss’ request was crazy; they wanted her to pick the glass out piece by piece! Clearly, she refused. What if there were smaller pieces she couldn’t see?
