Not many foodies know that ramen is a Japanese version of Chinese wheat noodle soups. It first appeared in Yokohama Chinatown in the early 20th century. And although ramen is named after the northern Chinese dish lamian, it does not originate from it.

A woman and her son were eating ramen at a restaurant in Shizuoka, Japan, when she noticed a human thumb floating in her son’s soup! While slicing pork, an employee cut off a one-centimeter chunk of her thumb and decided not to tell anyone.
