Despicable Me 2 was nominated for an Oscar
It was a great surprise to see that Despicable Me 2 was among the animated movies nominated for an Oscar in 2014, for best animated feature and best original song. In fact, it was nominated for two Academy Awards. In addition to accolades, the franchise has made hundreds of millions of dollars globally and deservedly so.
It was the third-highest-grossing film of 2013 and was named the most profitable film in the 101-year history of Universal, earning US$368 million in the United States alone. For a Minions spin-off movie, it is seemingly a successful movie and possesses endless merchandising opportunities.
