Minions are made from a single strand of mutated DNA
One of the short movies, Orientation Day, shows that Minions are made from a single strand of mutated DNA. Scientifically, Minions came from yellow single-cell organisms created in the ocean. Since many animals originated from the ocean, it is not surprising to see Minions come from there, too. Nature and life are, indeed, a mystery.
This can be seen in the first film’s beginning credits, which showed how they evolved from being round cylinders to having little dangling arms and legs. The cellular variation caused them to have one or two eyes with goggles and so on until they stopped and became what we know today as the usual, normal-ish Minions.
