It’s important to maintain healthy boundaries
Switching from living alone to having a roommate can be a major change for anyone to adapt to. Oftentimes, people who haven’t had exposure to or experience living with others may wrongly assume that everyone has lived a similar lifestyle as theirs. This is not true.
Understanding others takes time. This is why it’s important to set expectations and boundaries immediately. Not doing so is a major cause of ruined roommate relationships. When roommates fail to clearly voice their expectations from day one, this lack of communication can later turn into a source of friction and a cause for a major argument in the future. This scenario can be avoided by establishing healthy boundaries from the beginning.
